Every year for the past decade, my family stands amazed at the work done by my parents, Dick and Ann Akins, and many other generous friends and fellow parishioners at the Church of the Resurrection in West Linn, Oregon.

The Portland area has one of the highest rates of homelessness in the nation. One day after Mass, the words of the Lord rang loudly in my parents' ears as they passed a number of homeless huddled up under and overpass. The swung into the nearest outdoor clothing store, bought a dozen sleeping bags and drove back to that underpass to warm the days and nights of many of God's beloved children.

For the past half dozen years, this efforts has grown, now over 300 sleeping bags are given out each year. The harvest this year - well, see for yourself.
